Pendants and Island Lights Cont'd

Pendants and pendant fixtures are hung at the standard height of 30”-34” above the surface below them. Spacing between pendants is usually done by the electrician to complete a uniform symmetric look over the surface (see picture).

Single pendants are often hung by either chain, wire, or metal stems. In any event, the chain and wire can be adjusted to accommodate most ceilings. The metal stems are interchangeable to create a variation of standard ceiling heights.
Some installations will require the pendant fixture to be mounted on a sloped ceiling. All chain and wire-suspended fixtures can be installed without a problem on a sloped ceiling. Fixtures with metal stems, however, must have a sloped-ceiling adapter at the top of the stem. This “adapter” is a joint which allows the stem to swivel in many directions to accommodate a slope. Most pendants come with this feature standard.
