Sconces and Vanity Lighting

Sconces are wall-mounted light fixtures which provide ideal complimentary lighting for several areas of the home including hallways, bedrooms, dinning rooms, and of course bathrooms. Sconces are very common as vanity lights in bathrooms, where they provide direct and indirect lighting for the mirror surface. Sconces usually provide a sufficient amount of light but are not usually considered the main light source in the room.

Sconces are relatively easy to size as they only come in several sizes and can be gauged by your eyes for good proportion. Vanity lights are even easier! (discussed in detail on the following page). The important thing is to be able to find is a sconce that fits your clients’ style and need.
Wall sconces are generally mounted facing upwards (note: this does not apply to vanity lights)

Wall sconce placement varies amongst preferences and location, but typically 72”-74” above the floor (to the center of the electrical box) is a good place to start for the height. (not applicable to vanity fixtures)
